The play that was closed in Kapasia will be staged on Saturday.
It has been decided to stage the play ‘Apon Dulal’, which was closed in Kapasia, Gazipur, tomorrow, Saturday (April 5) morning, in the same field. Kapasia Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Tamanna Tasneem confirmed this information to Prothom Alo on her mobile phone at 8:30 pm today, Friday. She said, ‘The organizers of the play have confirmed to me that they will stage the play in the same field tomorrow (Saturday).’
Earlier on Friday evening, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Nurul Amin held a meeting with representatives of various parties in the conference room of the upazila administration. Shah Riazul Hannan, joint convener of Gazipur district BNP, who participated in the meeting, told Prothom Alo at 9 pm, ‘Our AC Land (Assistant Commissioner) sat down with media personnel on this issue. Kapasia Police Station OC, BNP leaders, representatives of worshippers, organizers of the play and leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement were present there. Based on everyone’s opinion, it has been decided to stage the play in the same field. The play will be staged there on Saturday.’ After discussing with the media workers, Kapasia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Nurul Amin gave a formal statement. In his statement, he said, ‘The organizers will stage the play. If they do the play, they will be fully supported. We will be vigilant so that no obscene pictures are shown.’
It is worth noting that the play named ‘Apon Dulal’ was supposed to be staged last Thursday morning at the Raniganj Udayan Sangha field in Kapasia Upazila of Gazipur. For 52 years, local cultural workers have been staging plays, musicals, and folk songs. This was the 52nd edition. The play was canceled due to objections from a local party. The police headquarters says that the cancellation of the play was not due to religious reasons, but political reasons.
